Described by Adelaide radio legend Peter Goers as “the best in SA”, our boutique Elcies Thrift Stores have earned a reputation for quality brands and second-to-none service. Catering for those who love to thrift and support South Australians in need at the same time, Elcies Thrift Store sorters handpick the cream of the crop of preloved stock for you to uncover in our boutique thrift stores.
Our Elcies stores are located on the popular shopping strip of The Parade, Norwood, in the coastal hub of Semaphore and in Tanunda, in the beautiful Barossa Valley.
Committed to sustainability
Lutheran Care opened its first Elcies Thrift Store on The Parade, Norwood, in October 2019. Following this success, we opened Elcies Barossa in Tanunda on 1 October 2020. Semaphore joined the family in January 2023.
These gorgeous shops stock a fantastic selection of good-quality, second hand items, including clothing, handbags, shoes, purses, novels, jewellery, furniture and homewares.
We give people’s fantastic quality preloved wares another chance at life, rescuing items that could have otherwise ended up in landfill and disrupting fast fashion. Our sorters have already done the hard work for customers, with sought-after brands and collectable items handpicked to please our discerning shoppers.

Elcies Thrift Stores were designed to enable Lutheran Care to help more people in need, with proceeds from the sales of donated items going towards our programs for people experiencing crisis, hardship, homelessness and disadvantage, including Emergency Relief.
We honour your donation by seeking the best price we can for it, as every dollar benefits Lutheran Care clients. Pick up a quality, unique item much cheaper than what you would have had to pay new, and feel good your spend makes a difference to people in need right here in South Australia, as one of only a few charity shops supporting a local SA charity.
Thrift Store Donations Guide
Due to a significant volume of post-Christmas donations — including items that are soiled, broken or not suitable for resale — Lutheran Care has paused the majority of donations while teams work through the backlog.
Please note, Elcies Thrift Stores are currently accepting only the highest-quality, sale-ready items.
To help our team manage donations safely and efficiently, all items must be handed in store during opening hours until further notice.

We gratefully accept the donation of quality preloved goods from our supporters. Each year our volunteers sort, pack and move thousands of bags of clothing and bric-a-brac items to stock up our shops across Adelaide and the Barossa.
Unfortunately we are not able to accept some items because of compliance or safety reasons, lack of storage space or lack of floor space in our stores. Thank you for your understanding.
We appreciate donors ensuring all items are in a good, clean, usable condition.

- Clothing of all sizes for men, women and children which is clean and presentable
- Children’s toys which are clean and unbroken
- Dinnerware and crockery which is presentable and unbroken
- Clean shoes
- Unbroken picture frames
- Jewellery (including clip-on earrings)
- Hats, fascinators, scarves, belts and ties
- Clean linen (bed sheets, pillow cases, curtains)
- Crystal/vases/teapots/glasses
- Handbags, tote bags/shoppers, evening bags, beach bags/baskets
- Baking and cooking equipment and utensils
- Small kitchen appliances in good working order (eg. toasters, kettles, electric frypans/woks, slow cookers, rice cookers)
- Saucepans
- Chopping boards
- Plastic cooking/freezing items and containers with lids
- Electronic games and consoles
- Vintage and retro cameras
- Sporting equipment including golf equipment (must be clean)
- Buttons, beads and wool
- Personal appliances, including hair dryers, straighteners etc.
- Beds and mattresses
- Electric blankets
- Wardrobes
- Washing machines & dryers
- Fridges & freezers
- Microwaves
- Space heaters
- Knives and scissors
- Specific school uniforms
- Large garden/outdoor equipment (i.e. lawnmowers, BBQs, gas bottles)
- Computer monitors and printers
- Broken, incomplete or unclean children’s toys
- Helmets
- Used pillows and quilts (new items still in packaging accepted)
- VHS cassettes or cassette players
- Used stationery (including old personal diaries and calendars)
- Illegitimate DVDs, computer games or audio CDs – it is against the law in Australia to retail unofficial copies e.g. ‘burnt CDs’
- Any type of restraint baby items (e.g. cots, bouncers, car seats, highchairs).

We are looking for volunteers! Our Elcies Thrift Stores welcome volunteers from all walks of life.
There are currently a number of volunteer shifts available in all of our stores, as well as behind the scenes in our Blair Athol Distribution Centre.
