How You Can Help

Your school or class can partner with us and make a difference to local families and individuals doing it tough.

Support our clients by:

  • getting involved in fun campaigns like Wear Your Winter Woollies or the 12 Days of Giving, or come up with your own creative fundraising project or donation drive!

  • Send your students to volunteer with us to provide practical help whilst learning about social justice, disadvantage and community services careers.

  • Host a guest speaker from Lutheran Care to find out about our work and the challenges facing vulnerable people in our communities right now.

We love working with Lutheran schools, other Christian or independent schools, and public schools, from Reception to Year 12!

12 Days of Giving

The 12 Days of Giving encourages students to learn about the joy of giving and helping others at Christmas time. The 12-day challenge is rather like a ‘reverse’ Advent calendar, with all gifts benefiting clients. Sign up your school today!

Winter Woollies

Wear Your Winter Woollies encourages students and staff to come to school in their favourite winter clothing items and donate a gold coin, long-life pantry or hygiene item, or some clean, warm clothing, for someone in need.

Fill Our Pantry

Encourage students and families in your school community to donate long-life food items or hygiene items to share with families or individuals in crisis through our Emergency Relief (ER) program.

Through ER, we support a steadily increasing number of people who need immediate assistance through food relief, clothing, bedding, vouchers, and referrals to financial counselling, personal counselling, homelessness programs, support groups and other services. Food insecurity is a growing concern among our ER clients. With the current cost of living and housing crises, we are finding many more people are coming to us for ER, not able to afford to feed themselves and their families.

Our ER program does not receive government funding and relies on monetary and material donations. Donations of foodstuffs and other items are greatly appreciated. We gratefully accept items such as:

  • Tinned food
  • Two-minute noodles (‘pot noodles’ preferred)
  • Long-life milk
  • Hygiene items (eg. soap, shampoo/conditioner, sanitary items).
You can find a full list of items our clients need, here.

Volunteering / Work Experience

Lutheran Care welcomes volunteers from local schools who would like to find out more about our work, gain skills and give back to their community.

We welcome enquiries from schools who would like to send a class or small group of students to volunteer for our Op Shops or Emergency Relief program for a day or up to a week. Duties may include assisting behind the scenes at our Blair Athol Op Shop Donation Distribution Centre, restocking the food relief pantry or packing emergency food hampers.

Individual students interested in gaining valuable retail and customer service skills and experience are welcome to get in touch regarding volunteering at our Op Shops in the school holidays or on weekends. Employers look favourably on job applications that include volunteering which can often lead to being successful in obtaining paid employment.

Find out more about volunteering here, or contact our Volunteer Coordinator via volunteer@lutherancare.org.au or 0437 836 134.

We also welcome enquiries for work experience or internship placements from high school students, and university students involved in courses such as social work. Our Learning & Development team coordinates student placements, and can be contacted via careers@lutherancare.org.au

Guest Speaking

Invite one of our Lutheran Care team to come to your school as a guest speaker.

We can share with your students about the work we do in the community, or information about a specific program that aligns with your learning programs.

Our team includes experts in homelessness, counselling and mental health, food security, parenting and families, careers and volunteering, philanthropy and fundraising, and more. To get in touch to explore options, please email communications@lutherancare.org.au

Charity of Choice

If your school or Student Representative Council are seeking a charity to work with, consider Lutheran Care.

We are South Australian born and bred and all donations – be they monetary, in the form of long-life pantry goods or hygiene items or good-quality clothing or blankets – support South Australians in need.

Get behind our Lent, Winter or Christmas Appeals, or organise a fundraiser or donation drive at a time that suits your school best. We can support and promote your great work. Contact us at communications@lutherancare.org.au
