Leading the Toward Home Alliance
Lutheran Care is very proud to be the Lead Agency of the Toward Home Alliance. Delivering services in the Adelaide CBD, inner and outer southern metro area and Adelaide Hills, Toward Home is one of the SA Government’s five regional homelessness alliances. We are excited to be at the cutting edge of transformational service reform and are committed to working closely with our expert partners within and outside our Alliance, including our government partner the South Australian Housing Authority, to achieve our Mission: preventing and ending homelessness. As part of Toward Home, Lutheran Care delivers the Access and Divert programs.

Access
Our friendly Access team are the first port of call for clients who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. The team can be contacted via our Access phone number (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm): 1800 809 273 and are also stationed at key Alliance member and partner sites (please see contact section below). Our team members listen to every client’s story and then link them with the Toward Home service that best suits their unique situation and needs. From there, clients can be supported to explore their housing options, receive additional supports, and address barriers that may be preventing them from accessing and maintaining a safe, sustainable home.
Homelessness Services
Divert
Lutheran Care delivers the Divert service, within Toward Home. Our Divert team supports people who have recently found themselves experiencing homelessness, or are at imminent risk of experiencing homelessness for the first time. We provide free and confidential information and assistance specific to clients’ needs, support to access services which may assist clients in securing accommodation (including public and community housing, private rental and shared accommodation options), referrals to a range of community organisations and service providers that can assist clients in working through and resolving particular issues (including health providers, legal services, Centrelink, financial counselling), support to access emergency food providers, and/or help to make social connections in the community.

Preventing and ending homelessness with private sector support
Lutheran Care believes that everyone has a part to play in preventing and ending homelessness. We have welcomed new partnerships with private sector organisations which are putting up their hands to support Toward Home clients and our Alliance to work toward our Mission. We are actively pursuing further opportunities to work with likeminded teams and organisations in this space. We have partnered with local real estate agency, Harcourts Packham, to deliver Terra Firma, a new short-term accommodation option with accompanying support for Toward Home clients. The CBD facility offers short stays of up to 12 weeks for clients, including some specific rooms for clients with pets, in a building which has been repurposed since its previous life as backpackers’ accommodation. Additionally, a new partnership with Good360, is opening up opportunities for corporate Australia to donate goods and services to support our clients.
