Lutheran Care is proudly South Australian born and bred – and we now have the tick to prove it!
We are excited to announce we’ve been approved to use the Brand SA logo across our website, resources and sites.
According to the Brand SA website, “Brand South Australia champions a compelling brand that unites industry, government and community in an effort to tell South Australia’s story to the world”.
Founded in 1969 in South Australia by a group of pioneering Lutheran women, Lutheran Care has always been a champion of advocacy and equity, serving the needs and fighting for the rights of those who have fallen through the cracks of the system.
The organisation was born after a need was identified for a central social welfare office in Adelaide, and a central receiving depot for the storage of secondhand clothing and goods. A site at 309 Prospect Road – where our current Blair Athol team is based – was selected. The Lutheran Women of SA enthusiastically raised half the purchase price of the site, and the District Church Council provided the remainder.
The site was dedicated, as the Lutheran Social Welfare and Relief Centre dedicated on November 23, 1969, and Lutheran Care as we know it today began.
In 1983, there was a name change to Lutheran Community Care, which was renamed to Lutheran Care in late 2020.
We are proudly a South Australian organisation, and since 2009 have also been government-funded to provide Financial Wellbeing services Central Australia through a team based in Mpartnwe/Alice Springs and providing outreach services to 28 remote Aboriginal communities.
All proceeds raised through major fundraising appeals, such as the Christmas, Lenten and Winter Appeals, and the Gala Dinner, stay right here in South Australia to support local families and individuals experiencing crisis, disadvantage, and vulnerability through programs such as Emergency Relief.
Lutheran Care CEO Rohan Feegrade said, “Our organisation is incredibly proud to display the ‘I’m Local’ Brand SA mark as a testament to our deep roots in South Australia.
“Joining this network of community-minded, locally driven businesses reflects our shared commitment to supporting the people, culture, and economy of this remarkable state.”
Lutheran Care is proud to be one of very few not-for-profit charity organisations headquartered in South Australia, and hope that being part of the Brand SA community will help increase awareness of our services for local people, and encourage people who are in the position to provide financial or volunteer support, to consider supporting and donating to Lutheran Care.
“We also warmly welcome people to donate their good quality secondhand goods and clothes to our Lutheran Care and Elcies Op Shops, and shopping with our stores, as proceeds also stay in the local area to help people who need it most.
“Together, we’re not just businesses; we’re partners in supporting and building a thriving future for South Australians,” Mr Feegrade said.
