Lutheran Care’s Tanunda Open Day was a great success last month, attracting dozens of community members to celebrate the relocation of our Barossa office.
Held on Wednesday, March 13, locals gathered to take a tour of the new office and meet our Barossa team. Guests also had the opportunity to learn more about the expansion of our services in the region and enjoyed networking over coffee and lunch.
While the event itself was very relaxed, attendees briefly heard from Lutheran Care’s Operations Manager Family & Community Services Helen Walker and Executive Manager Community Services Susan Richards.
“It’s wonderful having everyone here today and showcasing the support services that we can offer from this new site,” Ms Richards said.
“Over the last two to three years we’ve really expanded our services here. We’ve now got Community Connections, a homelessness pilot and our Children’s Contact Service. The services are reaching out to support more people within the community.
“In addition, the collaboration from this team in the Barossa is just outstanding. Whenever I visit, I see everyone working together to really support clients and people who access our services in a holistic manner.”
Narungga and Ngadjuri man Quenten Agius provided a Welcome to Country on the day and was joined by two young family members who had the responsibility of painting faces and hands with traditional ochre.
Lutheran Church of Australia SA-NT Bishop Andrew Brook was unable to attend the event but provided a short statement touching on Lutheran Care’s origins with the Church and connection to the region.
“The Barossa Valley has been the heartland of the Lutheran Church since the 1940s and the valley is home to many congregations who serve this community,” Bishop Andrew said.
“Through this office, Lutheran Care will do what their name suggests, provide valued support for those in the community who need it.”
The move to the hub of Tanunda’s main street positions Lutheran Care and the team to help a growing number of people in the region who need support, while also providing better access to complimentary services for our clients.
Lutheran Care’s new location is based at Shop 7/8, 109-111 Murray Street. The relocation also brings our services closer to Lutheran Care’s Elcies Tanunda Op Shop, which is only a short distance away on Murray Street.
All Barossa services can be accessed from the new office, with the exception of the Children’s Contact Service, which remains operating at Gersch House in Nuriootpa.
Lutheran Care provides support in the Barossa through programs including Emergency Relief, Financial Wellbeing, Family and Relationship Counselling, Community Connections, Children’s Contact Service and the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme.
