Here is a story to warm your heart on this chilly morning. It’s the true story of one of our recent clients, Natalie*, a 65-year-old Aboriginal woman with disabilities.
Sadly, Natalie had her belongings stolen, including her phone, ID and money. She had recently been “kicked out” of her relative’s home and had nowhere to go.
When she walked through our doors at Blair Athol, she came in with only the clothes on her back.
From her first greeting with our receptionist, Natalie felt safe and secure. Our receptionist was incredibly supportive and even spoke in Greek with Natalie, who had a Greek foster parent many years ago. This put a huge smile on her face.
Our op shops manager was able to provide Natalie with much-needed clothing to keep her warm. She was also given blankets and food to support her in the short-term and advice on accommodation services.
Our staff spent the afternoon tirelessly working to secure a safe space for Natalie over the weekend, which they were able to do so at Terra Firma, a refurbished short-term space in Adelaide’s CBD run by the Toward Home Alliance.
This is just one example of how Lutheran Care’s dedicated team members collaborate to help the most vulnerable in our communities.
Thank you to our Blair Athol team members who were able to give Natalie meaningful and practical support at a very tough time, treating her with kindness, respect, and empathy.
We also thank our generous supporters, whose donations allow us to continue help people such as Natalie. Never underestimate the impact you make on people’s lives every day.
